Dear Neighbor,
My name is Max, and I am proud to serve as your State Representative. I am running for reelection to continue the work we have started together and to build on the progress we have made for our community and our state. I want to take this opportunity to share more about my background, the experiences that have shaped my perspective, and why I remain committed to public service.
I was raised as an only child by two parents who dedicated their lives to education and scientific research. Much of my childhood was spent outdoors, hiking, gardening, and exploring the natural environment in western Massachusetts, and traveling with my parents to academic conferences throughout the country. Those early experiences fostered a deep appreciation for the natural world and an understanding of the role that research, education, and policy play in shaping our future.
When my family later moved to Warwick, it marked an important transition. It was here that I began to connect those early experiences with a growing interest in community and public life. Watching my parents present their work, speak before large audiences, and contribute to broader conversations about science and policy helped shape my own confidence and curiosity. It was in those moments that I first began to understand how ideas could translate into action and impact.
I went on to attend Salve Regina University, where I pursued a degree in Environmental Studies. My time in college allowed me to explore further the intersection of science, policy, and community impact. I became increasingly interested in how environmental challenges, particularly those facing coastal communities like ours, could be addressed through thoughtful, forward-looking policy.
After graduating, I began my professional career with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, where I worked on initiatives focused on sustainability and resource management. This experience provided a practical understanding of how policy is developed, implemented, and evaluated at the state level.
At the same time, I joined the faculty at the University of Rhode Island, where I have had the opportunity to teach, mentor students, and continue engaging with research and public dialogue around environmental policy and sustainability. These roles have allowed me to stay connected to both the academic and practical sides of policymaking.
My first step into public advocacy came when I testified in support of renewable energy initiatives, including offshore wind development in Rhode Island. Speaking before policymakers and community members, I saw firsthand how important it is for voices from within the community to be part of these conversations. That experience reinforced my belief that effective policy requires both expertise and engagement.
That belief ultimately led me to run for public office. As your State Representative, I have worked to support initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that Rhode Island is prepared to meet the challenges of the future. I believe that thoughtful, evidence-based policymaking can create meaningful progress while maintaining a strong connection to the needs of our community.
I am running for reelection because I believe there is more work to be done. Our state faces complex challenges that require long-term thinking, collaboration, and a willingness to invest in the future. Whether it is expanding renewable energy, supporting education and research, or strengthening our communities, I remain committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and purpose.
I am grateful for the opportunity to represent you and for the trust you have placed in me. I look forward to continuing this work together and to building a stronger, more sustainable future for Rhode Island.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Max
